Prague, 28 November 2024 — The yellow ribbon has been a symbol of hope, solidarity and a second chance for people with a criminal past for ten years. The organization Yellow Ribbon z.s., which is behind the Yellow Ribbon Run project, aims to help those who want to overcome their past and reintegrate into society. In history and in other countries of the world, this symbol represents the hope of second chances for other endangered groups as well, which can lead to different interpretations of its meaning.

In order to clearly state its mission and continue to raise awareness about the importance of connecting the state sector, the non-profit sector and companies through running sports, the organization opted for a redesign of the Yellow Ribbon visual identity.

Gabriela Slováková: “New identity, same mission”

“The yellow ribbon is a symbol that unites a community of people who believe in second chances and social responsibility. But at the same time, we respect that it can have different meanings in the international context. With the new visual design, we want to clearly emphasize our mission, which focuses on supporting people with criminal backgrounds, their families and creating a safer society.” explains Gabriela Slováková, initiator of the Yellow Ribbon Run project in the Czech Republic.

Veronika Friebová: “A more accurate expression of the values of solidarity and support”

“The new visual identity better reflects the values we seek to spread, as well as courage, determination and hope for a fresh start. We want to differentiate ourselves without losing the essence of our work. The redesign allows us to strengthen our voice in the Czech Republic and abroad,” is complemented by Veronika Friebová, for the Yellow Ribbon organizing team.

Why is it important to promote second chances?

In the Czech Republic, recidivism is still high — 7 out of 10 people return to prison. Projects like the Yellow Ribbon Run are helping to change this trend by brokering help in finding work, housing and building relationships in society. Supporting people with criminal histories not only reduces recidivism, but also contributes to a safer society.

A new visual identity: A clear message for the future

The redesign of Yellow Ribbon's visual identity brings a more modern treatment of the yellow ribbon symbol that clearly communicates its role in educating and building a community supporting the integration of people with criminal pasts. The organization will gradually present the new design and the public will have the opportunity to experience it especially in the 10th annual Yellow Ribbon Run, which will take place on June 10, 2024 in Obora Hvězda, Prague.

“Even with the new form of the yellow ribbon, our mission remains the same: To help people who want to improve their lives and become valid members of society. Thank you to everyone who stands behind us and supports this idea,” concludes Gabriela Slováková.
